Discover the bold spirit that revived a legend. Taboo Genuine Absinthe is Canada’s first authentic absinthe, crafted in the traditional pre-prohibition style using original 19th-century recipes and artisanal distilling methods. Launched in 2007, Taboo celebrates the rich heritage of absinthe—once banned across much of the world, but never in Canada.

Crafted with Tradition and Elegance

Taboo is distilled using a meticulous process of maceration and redistillation, just as absinthe was made before the ban. Our base spirit is a neutral fruit alcohol, which is naturally gluten-free and imparts a smooth, elegant finish—far softer than grain-based alternatives.

We use whole botanicals, never artificial flavors or essences. Each bottle is infused with a refined blend of:

• Grande Wormwood & Petite Wormwood
• Fennel & Anise
• Lemon Balm & Hyssop

These herbs grow wild in our region and are hand-selected to deliver Taboo’s signature aroma and complex flavor—perfect for those who enjoy the bold taste of black licorice without the sweetness of liqueurs like Sambuca.

Canada’s unique history—never having signed the international absinthe ban—allowed Taboo to emerge in its genuine, uncompromised form. If it had launched during the prohibition era (1910s–2007), it would’ve been outlawed. Today, it stands as a bold tribute to absinthe’s mystique and cultural impact.

Fragrance: Characteristic aniseed, wormwood and fennel basis, citrus, balm, mint, eucalyptus, delicate spiciness, dried herbs, thyme, yarrow, iva, slightly marc-like aspects, almost pear- and apple-like.
