Our Story

Our Legacy in the Making

From orchard to still, each chapter reflects a commitment to tradition, innovation, and the art of craft distilling.

2004
Rooted in old-world craft, a new distilling legacy is born
Western Canada's first Craft Distillery

The Mission: Born from the idea of utilizing the overabundance of Okanagan fruit—perfect quality fruit that was discarded simply for cosmetic blemishes or size.
European Roots: We were born on a European/Old World model, where
agricultural waste is turned into fine spirits. We are pioneers and forefathers of Craft Distilling in Canada.
What started as an experiment in harnessing the potential of world class Okanagan grown fruit and berries, has now grown to incorporate other base materials including locally grown grains such as double row malting barley, rye, wheat, and grain corn.

    The Pinnacle of Ingredients:

We believe that exceptional spirits begin with the finest ingredients. Nestled in the heart of the Okanagan Valley, we source the best local fruits and grains to form the foundation of our products. Unlike commercial alcohols that often rely on cheap, flavorless grains, our commitment to quality starts at the root – quite literally.

Artisanal Mastery: German Copper Pot Stills:

Crafting superior spirits is an art, and our custom-made German copper pot stills are the artist's brush. These marvels of craftsmanship are not just distillation vessels; they are alchemical instruments that transform carefully selected ingredients into liquid gold. The precision and tradition embodied in these stills contribute to the unique character and depth of flavor found in every bottle of Okanagan Spirits.

    Beyond the Ordinary:

In a market saturated with commercial alcohols that prioritize quantity over quality, Okanagan Spirits invites you to elevate your drinking experience. Our commitment to excellence, from ingredient selection to distillation techniques, results in products that transcend the commonplace and offer a taste of true craftsmanship.

  • Maturation & Terroir

It's not just about time in the barrel; it's about quality time in the barrel.

    • The Climate: The Okanagan Valley is one of the best places on earth for
maturation. Unlike the wet/cold climate of Scotland (where whisky
penetrates wood slowly), our hot, dry climate forces an aggressive
      interaction between spirit and wood.

    • The Toast & Char: Because our climate is unique, we cannot use standard barrels. We work with our cooperage to Custom Deep-Toast and Medium Char our white oak casks.
Why? This maximizes the caramelized wood sugars (vanillas/caramels)
without using the heavy "alligator char" that commercial distilleries use to
      filter out their dirty cuts.
