- Lime Zest Garnish

- One night last week I was up and couldn't sleep. I was just laying there thinking about all the important things like world peace and starvation, or when are gas prices going to stop destroying my bank account? or most importantly, when is the cosmopolitan going to become a better drink? The other Adam in Canada (@homebarbrainiac )sure gave it a go the other day but I also decided to go for it. Now this also meant I use vodka, which is a incredibly rare for me so you can go ahead and save this post cause it's likely to not happen again for a while. I wanted to make it a stirred drink, which meant I was getting rid of the juice and citrus. What I came up with was a hybrid between a martini and a Cosmo. With a vodka base, I added some cranberry liqueur since it's obviously necessary for a Cosmo's flavour and colour. I added in some Dry Vermouth because I felt it would add some body and complexity to the drink while keeping the sweetness low. A little orange bitters and then I zested the final drink with a lime peel. I was originally thinking a dash of lime bitters as well but at the moment I don't have any so I'm sticking with the zest. I've been eyeing some lime bitters from local companies, I'm just not sure which ones I'm going to pull the trigger on yet!. from @the.secondshot
